UNDERSTANDING YOUR SYMPTOMS
What are the symptoms of ulcerative colitis?
Ulcerative colitis is a long-term inflammatory bowel condition affecting the colon and rectum. It can cause diarrhea, bleeding, abdominal discomfort and an urgent need to use the bathroom. Quieter periods may alternate with flare-ups. The symptoms, their severity and the effects on daily life vary, and medical assessment helps distinguish it from other conditions.
Loose or frequent stools
Diarrhea or more frequent bowel movements may change your daily routine.
Blood or mucus
Blood or mucus may appear with stool and deserves clinical attention.
Urgency
A sudden need for the bathroom can be difficult to postpone.
A lingering urge
You may still feel a need to go when your bowel is empty.
Abdominal cramps
Belly pain or cramping may accompany changes in bowel habits.
Low energy
Fatigue may make ordinary tasks feel more demanding than usual.
Symptoms can have more than one cause, and experiences vary. A symptom list cannot tell you whether you have ulcerative colitis. A healthcare professional can assess your symptoms and decide which tests or follow-up are appropriate.
YOUR DAY-TO-DAY, TOGETHER
Less to remember. More to talk about.
A symptom journal gives the day-to-day details of life with ulcerative colitis a place to go. With Jetty, you can talk or type about your symptoms and daily life while they’re still fresh.
Jetty keeps your health notes organized over time, helping you look back on changes and prepare the symptom history and questions you want to bring to your next appointment.
What to put in your symptom journal
Tell Jetty about urgency, bowel frequency, bleeding and whether symptoms interrupted sleep. Include the practical effects, from shortened outings to missed work, to explain what a difficult day actually means.
Record changes from your usual pattern alongside questions for your IBD team. A dated account can support that conversation, but it cannot establish inflammation levels or decide whether treatment needs changing.
Questions you might bring: What should my plan be when urgency or bleeding changes? How will we assess whether my current symptoms reflect active inflammation?
