UNDERSTANDING YOUR SYMPTOMS

What are the symptoms of ME/CFS?

Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) is a chronic illness that can substantially limit everyday activity. It involves more than tiredness: symptoms can worsen after physical or mental effort, and sleep may not feel restorative. Thinking difficulties, pain, and symptoms when upright can also occur. Experiences and levels of disability vary from person to person.

Overwhelming fatigue

Deep exhaustion can limit ordinary activities and may not improve with rest.

Post-exertional malaise

Physical or mental effort can worsen symptoms, sometimes with a delay.

Unrefreshing sleep

You may wake feeling unwell or unrested despite a full night in bed.

Thinking difficulties

Concentration, memory, or finding the right words may become harder.

Upright symptoms

Sitting or standing may bring dizziness, lightheadedness, or other worsening symptoms.

Pain and headaches

Muscle aches, joint pain, or headaches may accompany changes in energy.

Symptoms can have more than one cause, and experiences vary. A symptom list cannot tell you whether you have ME/CFS. A healthcare professional can assess your symptoms and decide which tests or follow-up are appropriate.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY, TOGETHER

Less to remember. More to talk about.

A symptom journal gives the day-to-day details of life with ME/CFS a place to go. With Jetty, you can talk or type about your symptoms and daily life while they’re still fresh.

Jetty keeps your health notes organized over time, helping you look back on changes and prepare the symptom history and questions you want to bring to your next appointment.

What to put in your symptom journal

When you have the capacity, note what you did, when symptoms changed, and how long the worsening lasted. A brief voice note can preserve details without requiring a complete daily log.

Include thinking tasks, time upright, sleep quality, and help you needed with everyday activities. Jetty can organize these observations for a conversation about your individual limits and symptom changes over time.

Questions you might bring: Could this delayed worsening be post-exertional malaise? What details about time upright, sleep, and recovery would be most useful for us to review?
