UNDERSTANDING YOUR SYMPTOMS

What are the symptoms of IBS?

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic disorder involving how the gut and brain work together. It commonly causes abdominal pain related to bowel movements and changes in stool frequency or form. Diarrhea, constipation, or both can occur, and symptoms may come and go. IBS can be disruptive even without visible damage to the digestive tract.

Abdominal pain

Pain or cramping may change in relation to a bowel movement.

Loose stools

Episodes of diarrhea may change how often you need the bathroom.

Constipation

Harder stools or difficulty passing them may alternate with easier days.

Bloating

Your abdomen may feel swollen or uncomfortably full at different times.

Incomplete emptying

You may feel that a bowel movement is not finished afterward.

Mucus in stool

Some people notice whitish mucus alongside other changes in bowel habits.

Symptoms can have more than one cause, and experiences vary. A symptom list cannot tell you whether you have IBS. A healthcare professional can assess your symptoms and decide which tests or follow-up are appropriate.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY, TOGETHER

Less to remember. More to talk about.

A symptom journal gives the day-to-day details of life with IBS a place to go. With Jetty, you can talk or type about your symptoms and daily life while they’re still fresh.

Jetty keeps your health notes organized over time, helping you look back on changes and prepare the symptom history and questions you want to bring to your next appointment.

What to put in your symptom journal

Describe stool consistency and frequency, pain before or after bowel movements, and bloating. Note changes over several days so your appointment story includes both constipation and diarrhea if you experience them.

Add meals, medication use, stress, and cycle timing if relevant, without assuming any one factor is responsible. Jetty can organize the timeline and help preserve the questions you want to ask.

Questions you might bring: Does this pattern fit IBS, or should we consider another explanation? Which changes in bowel habits or other symptoms should prompt me to contact you sooner?
